Landscapes for Change

We are passionate about creating equitable landscapes and believe in their transformative power. Our aim is to create innovative and forward-thinking landscapes to improve everyone’s access to nature.

We want to be different from other practices, and as part of our philosophy we will ensure that at least 50% of all our ongoing project time is towards Landscapes for Change. It is our mission that by 2035 it will be at least 75%.

Our criteria for “Landscapes for Change” are;

  • Free access for the general public.

  • Benefit a charitable group or organisation and it’s mission.

  • Equitable access for people of all abilities and backgrounds.

  • Beneficial for local community’s connection to nature and improved wellbeing.

  • Improve conservation of nature and wildlife.

  • Conserve existing heritage and improve interpretation and access.

  • Aim to achieve the most sustainable and ethical design possible.

  • All our “Landscapes for Change” will have their impact carbon calculated.

We are aiming to be as transparent as possible in this process and understand that our idea and philosophy will develop over time. At the moment, whilst we are setting up this initiative, it is not possible to share online all of our landscapes for good causes. We are hoping this will change soon and we will outline all of our evidence that we are working towards our aim of 75% for all our projects.

If you are a charity, community group, organisation or individual looking to make a landscape for change then please feel free to contact us here.

Why time and not number of projects?

We have made it our mission to spend at least 75% of our project time on landscapes for good causes by 2035. We decided to measure this by time to ensure that we are as transparent as possible with this initiative. This way, we can ensure that the majority our effort is being put into these types projects.

Why landscape for change?

Our Director, Ollie Pike, wanted to create the Landscapes for Change manifesto so that his work can contribute to people and place. After working for a number of different practices in the private sector, he was shocked at the disparity of wealth and access on the projects he worked on. We want Pike Studio to stand out from other design practices and would like to action our principles for change within the industry and use our talents for good. It was during the creation of the “This Garden Isn’t Finished Without You” for The Methodist Church in 2024 where Pike Studio worked closely with local communities to ensure engagement and care in the proposed community garden that the journey began.
